Newcomers are still a target, though not on the street: scammers go after job seekers, new arrivals and salary day, mostly online. The regional conflict is covered in Dubai right now.

Job scams

Other scams to know about

  • Fines and payment links by text

Messages about an unpaid traffic fine or toll, with a link to pay a small amount. The link steals your card details. Pay fines only in the official police or RTA apps.

Khaleej Times (UAE Public Prosecution), 11 April

  • Payday scams

Around salary day, fake offers, visa services and websites that copy government bodies, or callers asking you to install a remote-access app. Never share a password or one-time code with anyone.

Gulf News (Abu Dhabi Police), 27 July

  • Flats that don't exist

A cheap flat online and a deposit to "hold" it before you've seen it. Check the landlord and the property, and pay only once the tenancy is registered through official channels (Ejari).

About AED 9,150 a month for one person and about AED 21,700 for a family of three, including rent and school fees. Rent is the biggest cost.

Usually 1–4 weeks from signing your offer. Your employer applies and pays for it.
